Daffodil Day

Saturday 29th August, 2009

I was so excited on Daffodil Day (Friday 29 August) this year to be part of a project the Cancer Society is planning for next year’s Daffodil Day which marks the 20th anniversary of the annual fundraising event.  The Cancer Society sought NZIPP qualified photographers to volunteer their time to capture images for a book which will be released next year.  I was more than happy to donate my time to such a worthy cause.

I was assigned to photograph a wonderful volunteer by the name of Debbie.  Debbie has a career in banking but is a regular gives her time as a volunteer for the Cancer Society.  She has a very friendly nature and made it very easy for me to capture wonderful pictures of her throughout the day.  It was a pleasure to meet her and share in some of her time spent on this worthwhile cause.  We were based in Featherston St and then Lambton Quay so it was a busy day with lots of foot traffic and therefore funds to collect.

Unfortunately I can’t share my photos with you until next year, but encourage you all to keep an eye out for the book and join with me in supporting such a great cause.

Jason Napier

Tuesday 18th August, 2009

It was a refreshing afternoon shoot with a keen Wellington seaside south-west wind to contend with, but Jason took it all in his stride. An inspiration to talk to (Jason was lying on the operating table less than 4 weeks ago being operated on for a brain hemorrhage), braving the not so friendly weather was a ‘walk at the seaside’ for Jason. After already having to deal with weight issues and literally ‘walking off’ more than 40kgs, life has already thrown a few ‘low blows’ at Jason, but brain surgery was just another hurdle that he knew he could overcome with hard work and a positive attitude “You can’t do things by halves!” says Jason “ya got to give it everything!” who is about to throw himself head first into the New Zealand Television Industry.

Jason was an inspiration to work with; I’d like to think that some of his ‘can-do’ attitude rubbed off on me. All the best in making your dreams a reality Jason!
